Mouth Hunter
HD 18 mins
The nature of language is one of my biggest ongoing interests, and with this film I wanted to explore how meaning gets attached to words through people's interactions. My intent was to discover if language is inherently flawed, or if nonsense and misunderstanding are just the result of misuse and abuse by the people employing it.

This film is related to my personal experience. As a foreigner living in another country and dealing with a sense of displacement, I sometimes have that "outside looking in" feeling, and go through that same existential crisis described in Zhuang Zhou's parable "Am I me dreaming that I'm a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming that I'm me? Is this really me, am I really here?" My identity as an outsider can feel confined and stifling at certain times, but liberating and enlightening at others. Written, directed, shot and edited by Kyung Hee Kang.
You Have Enough Time
DV 13 mins
On a trip to Kyrgyzstan, I once observed a group of children acting out a Christian resurrection in a remote settlement in the mountains. Since it's a primarily Muslim country, I was intrigued. But when I returned home and found out some time later that the same group of children was now following a cult belief, I was struck even more by the disconnect between unseen belief and observable action. I decided to give my own narrative backstory to the children's actions, and this film is the result. Written, directed, shot and edited by Kyung Hee Kang.
A Trivial Incident

This is another attempt to incorporate theory into the form and production of a film, rather than its subject matter per se.
Directed, shot and edited by Kyung Hee Kang.
ANGER
Super 8 1 min
While we're busy getting angry over little things, the world's out there passing us by. I wanted to capture that feeling of meaninglessness and putting things in perspective, to remind myself how useless it is to get so caught up in small moments of anger. Written, directed, shot and edited by Kyung Hee Kang.
A WOMAN WITH A MOVIE CAMERA
Super 8 3 mins
Dziga Vertov's original Man with a Movie Camera is a seminal film in experimental cinema, and I wanted to pay homage to it by updating it. Instead of showing Russians in their relationship with the machinery industrializing their nation, my version has New Yorkers in their relationship with the machinery that runs their lives -- their transportation system, from the subway to the horse-drawn carriages to the iconic yellow cabs. Shot and edited by Kyung Hee Kang.
